This year for our Easter/ Spring party, I decided that I wanted to incorporate books. I know my parents loved me for this :) Each student chose a book and created a snack to go with the book. If the students wanted to participate, they each got an extra credit grade. If they couldn't participate by making something, they could still create a snack and write about it, but not bring it in, and still get the extra credit. My parents and students were SO creative. I was like a giddy little kid looking at all of the snacks. The kids loved it, and so ... read more
Insect Lapbook
These last few weeks, I have been co-teaching with our Gifted and Talented Resource teacher. It has been such a fun experience! I have never co-taught before, and we were both nervous about how it would work, but it has been blast. We have similar teaching styles and I love all the experience she has with gifted and talented students. It gave me a good reassurance that things I have done with my kiddos this year were good ones! Wonderopolis
If you haven't heard of this website, you MUST check it out. I use it with my advanced babies all the time. They love it, I love it, and it's the perfect easy 10 minute activity when you need a filler or an opening. We've been studying insects so I searched and found several wonders. We chose "Do Insects Work Out?" I usually use this to complete a writing prompt to open my lessons. Each day there is a new wonder, and my students even ask to read them on the weekends. Trust me, you will not be disappointed, enjoy!http://wonderopolis.org/ ... read more

A little update…Perimeter and Area
This last week we learned a little bit about perimeter and area. I took the opportunity to relate perimeter and area to our repeated addition and multiplication. Later in the week, I also gave the kids some graph paper to design buildings, castles, or houses. Then they had to find the area of their building. The kids got really creative, and I think they will get even better with time! I can't wait to upload a few of those pictures after we finish MAP testing. Here are a few pictures from the first time they worked on perimeter and area.My ... read more
